End of Financial Year Update

As I write on this beautiful, wintery saturday morning I imagine a large portion of Melbourne’s architectural community are probably nursing a sore head today. Some great wins at this years Victorian Architecture Awards. See http://vicawards.architecture.com.au/2012-award-winners/

A big congratulations to NH Architecture for being awarded the Commercial Architecture Sir Osborn McCutcheon Award for Salt Water Coast. A great project and a fun shoot.

Congratulations to Lyons for the Public Architecture Award for Melbourne Brain Centre. If you went to the launch of Lyons amazing monograph you would have enjoyed the experience of this space. This monograph is a must have! A collection of the practice’s work over the past 15 years, it is a well resolved visual journey that resonates the firm’s ethos of ‘parallel thinking’ – some great interviews and an interesting insight into the design principles of the firm. Congratulations to Peter Elliott Architecture + Urban Design for being awarded the Urban Design Award for University Lawn Precinct RMIT. This project is a huge success, students love this lawn. It has bought new life to what was once a dead zone back when I was a student at RMIT. Next time you are meandering the city and you feel like a little spot to rest, relax and chill – parallel to Bowen lane is where you can find this treasure.

We received 2 nominations in this years black and white spider awards – http://www.thespiderawards.com/gallery/7th/. Black and White Spider Awards is the leading international award honouring excellence in Black and White Photography.

8223 entries were received from 72 countries. 817 nominees were awarded in 14 categories.

I’ve just started documenting the completed version of Lyons new RMIT Academic building – really looking forward to getting into this one. Here’s the beginnings

If you are near Melbourne University, head to the Wunderlich Gallery, Ground Floor, Architecture Building and see ‘Idea Building – Lyons’. Idea Building is an installation which creates an imperfect ‘not quite right’ copy of the Lyons office. The exhibition runs from June 25 – 27 July.

Melbourne Open House is here again, this is a must do fantastic initiative. See http://www.openhousemelbourne.org/ - Keep the 28th & 29th of July free and plan your visits.
